Reasons why the cat doesn't use the new cat litter:
1. If the cat litter no longer has the familiar scent, the cat will feel it's not its territory and therefore will not want to go there.
2. The new type of cat litter has a different texture than the one used before, which makes the cat uncomfortable.
3. The cat doesn't like the smell of the cat litter, or finds the litter uncomfortable to walk on.
Solutions for cats not using new litter:
1. Mix cat excrement into the cat litter. When the cat needs to relieve itself, it will follow the scent to the toilet.
2. You can mix the old cat litter with the new cat litter for a period of time to allow the cat to adapt before gradually replacing it.
3. Switch to unscented cat litter or cat litter that makes your cat more comfortable. Do not choose cat litter with a strong odor or a lot of dust.
4. Move the new litter box to a quiet and secluded location. If the cat is startled by loud noise or disturbed by other pets, it may refuse to use the litter box anymore.
5. Place some of your cat's favorite toys near the litter box. Put the toys near the litter box to keep your cat interested in that area.
6. Keep the litter box clean at all times. If your cat likes to relieve itself on or near the edge of the litter box, and the box is very dirty, your cat will stop using it. Remove any clumps of litter at least once a day and replace with clean litter.
